Porcelain Veneers - Making Your Smile Beautiful

Ultra thin custom-designed shells used for dental restoration process in covering worn tooth enamel, uneven tooth alignment, spacing, chips and cracks made with tooth-like ceramic material are called porcelain veneers. Porcelain veneers are cosmetic covering made for front (anterior) teeth. Using porcelain veneers, we can change the size and shape of the tooth. Not only that porcelain veneers can be used to change the color of the tooth.

Porcelain veneers are the cosmetic laminates used for covering (masking) misaligned, discolored, chipped or worn teeth by bonding thin shells of porcelain to your front side of the teeth. Porcelain veneers are otherwise known as dental porcelain laminates or dental veneers.

Porcelain veneer technique is one of the basic techniques of cosmetic dental bonding. For decades the dentists have been able to create persistent bonds with teeth enamel. In porcelain veneer technique, the thin shell of porcelain (porcelain veneer) is attached to the teeth due to its bonding capability to create tenacious bonds. This gives us a long lasting restoration. Porcelain becomes very strong and durable when they are bonded with a firm substructure like tooth due to its inherited brittle property.

Porcelain Veneers have long-lasting benefits like its natural realistic appearance and stain resistance. It has gained in popularity over the years because of how easy it is to apply porcelain veneers and its natural appearance.

Porcelain material is translucent. As a result it can blend well with our teeth since our teeth is also translucent. Light passes through the teeth as well as the porcelain veneers. This gives the porcelain veneers a natural look and a feel of teeth. The translucency is an important property that is responsible for its characteristic appearance.

Porcelain is ceramic, which means that its surface is smooth, glass-like and it is not permeable. As a result it will not absorb stains. Due to this property even if we use excess tea, wine, coffee or cigar smoke it won t make much difference in the porcelain color. The invention of porcelain veneers has helped put a smile on many faces across the globe.
